Heart of Africa Benefit

Some of today's most prolific artists will take to the stage for a special performance to benefit the Heart of Africa’s Youth Empowerment Tour. The tour is a two-week exchange program that will take place in Johannesburg, South Africa and Lusaka, Zambia. During the tour, participating artists will utilize spoken word, rap and music to educate young people between the ages of 14 and 21 about pertinent health and social issues; provide them with tools to help them cope with life’s challenges; and promote literacy. The tour will also include educational workshops taught over a seven day period by hip-hop activists, educators and artists from the U.S. and Africa and culminate with a performance of spoken word, music and dance by visiting and local artists.

Featured artists for the benefit performance include: Kuku, Mello-D, Omékongo, OrigiNation and Sonya Renee.

Put Your Shoes On! Youth Employment Training Workshop

Date: Wednesday May 24, 2006

Work Description

This workshop is designed to provide youth between the ages of 16-20 with practical information on how to find a job. The workshop will cover resume writing, how to target one's search, the "do's" and "don't" about interviewing and much more. The workshop is the pre-curser to Muadi Dibinga's highly anticipated book: Put Your Shoes On! A Practical Guide for Youth Entering the Work Force. The book will be released by Free Your Mind Publishing in the Spring of 2006.

Grantwriting Workshop
